Carmine Caniani

Italian violist Carmine Caniani graduated with highest marks under the guidance of A. Maini at the “Gesualdo da Venosa” Conservatoire in Potenza. He specialised at the Scuola di Musica of Fiesole (A. Farulli), Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona (Bruno Giuranna) and Milano Musica Master with Simonide Braconi.

He took part in various orchestras including “Orchestra Giovanile Italiana” under the direction of G. Noseda, G. Ferro, J. Axelroad, and Orchestra Giovanile “Luigi Cherubini” conducted by Riccardo Muti.

With the Mitja Quartet he specialised at the ProQuartet of Paris, Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland, Scuola di Musica of Fiesole, “Walter Stauffer” Academy in Cremona and International Piano Academy “Incontri col Maestro” of Imola.

In 2007 he was awarded a scholarship at the “Gesualdo da Venosa” Conservatoire in Potenza. In April 2008 Carmine won as a soloist the Rosa Ponselle Prize at the 8th Music Competition “Città di Matera”.

Since 2015 with the Mitja Quartet Carmine excelled in Italian chamber music receiving widespread critical acclaim for the monographic record about Gian Francesco Malipiero, launched by “TACTUS” record label.

In 2020 the ensemble has released as its World Première the recording of G. Donizetti string quartets, launched by “Urania Records”.

With the Mitja Quartet Carmine performed for Associazione Alessandro Scarlatti of Naples alongside the great cellist G. Sollima, collaborated with the musicologists G. Bietti and S. Cappelletto and won an AMI Scholarship to attend a Masterclass with the great pianist A. Brendel in Modica.

He is currently chamber music teacher in Conservatorio “Umberto Giordano” in Rodi Garganico.
